Julie Aldridges' Art

These photos were sent to me today from Sanna, of an altered cabinet card by Julie . I don't know this artist but her altered cabinet cards are out of this world. This is how to REALLY alter cabinet cards!...

Meanwhile, after Maija very kindly sent me a RAK cabinet card, I have just finished one for her...here it is....

The age of Romance....

I made these three altered cabinet cards last evening using a new technique (for me, anyway). I applied glue to the outside areas and stuck on old pages from the bible. When dry, I tore it away so the interior of the picture was ragged and distressed looking. Then I used warm colours in chalks and inks to decorate - plus rubber stamping etc. A whacky fun take on the Romance theme.

What an amazing co-incidence!

If you scroll back you will find a You tube link of me showing the viewer a cabinet card album full of photos once belonging to a UK family called Mighell. Today I received this e mail....

Hello,My name is Dean Mighell and I live in Melbourne, Australia. I am still in shock at seeing your Youtube posting about the Mighell Book you found. Seeing faces of your forbearers is not something one expects on Youtube! I am litterally stunned and quite moved.

Do you wish to sell the book as I know it would mean so much to our family and I would dearly love to buy it.

Our family (Mighell) goes back to Brighton in England as far as 1506 and I have researched as much as I can. My great grandfather came here in the 1880's. I have been to the UK and Brighton and there is a street there named after the family and a church where so many of them were christened, married and buried. It's very moving stuff.

If you would consider selling the book I would be forever grateful and even a photocopy of the pages would be most welcome. It would be so helpfull on our family history. Thanks for your consideration.

Kindest regards,Dean Mighell

Isn't that just the most amazing thing?

Decorating

Yesterday I decided that it was time to decorate the office at home. It's a smallish room. I had put Laura Ashley rosebut wallpaper on it about 6 years ago and was dreading the day I had to take it off. I had to get a steamer to remove it. One wall was painted green. In order to get as much light in the room as possible, I have painted all the walls and ceiling white. The green wall took quite a few coats. It's virtually finished and it looks so fresh and nice, in good time for Christmas.
